Some people are anti-new year goals, I AM NOT ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE.
But I am also not someone who declares 20 new goals for the new year.
I like to pick a handful of things I struggled with in the previous year and improve in those areas.
So far for 2020 I have picked three goals to focus on. I might add a few more as the weeks and months go by, but for now these three have me excited.
Two of these goals are more personal and one is business focused.
I am starting the year only focusing on three goals because 1. I think they will have a trickle down effect on so many other aspects of my life that lots will happen because of them and
2. Setting a goal means you want to make that particular thing a priority, well friends, if we have 20 goals they can’t all be a priority, and thus nothing will change.
GOAL ONE:
READ MORE BOOKS.
More specifically read 2 books per month.
In 2019 I didn’t read nearly as many books as I did in years past. After a lot of thinking I realized I had created this silly rule where I thought was wasting my time by if I was reading the fun chic-lit fiction I love.
So I basically created this rule where it had to be a business or self-help book, and let’s be real, we can only read so many of those books before our brain stops being able to take in the information.
This year I am giving myself permission to read whatever the heck I want!
GOAL TWO:
SPEND LESS TIME ON MY PHONE
More specifically, spend, at most 4 hours per day on my phone, with a majority of those hours being when Ellie is at school or in bed.
I would be lying to you if I said I wasn’t addicted to my phone and checking social media. Most days in 2019 I spent 5-6 hours on my phone, when you add in 7 hours of sleep that means half my day was gone between my phone sleep!
Once I get my time down to under 4 hours I will decrease it down to 3 hours, with the ultimate goal of 2 hours or less per day.
I have a tendency to tell myself I am on my phone for work, but when I am home I can use my laptop and then the 5 minute task I need to take care of will truly take 5 minutes because I won’t then spend 20 minutes scrolling IG and FB.
Less time on my phone means more time with my family, more time reading, and more time adventuring outside!
GOAL THREE:
3X MY REVENUE FROM 2019 and make sure 60% of it goes into my pocket.
This goal is very doable if I keep showing up every week, keep focused and stay consistent.
Hitting this financial goal will mean that I can contribute a significant amount of money each month to my family.
The goal is doable, but not easy. It will really push me to get uncomfortable {my word for 2020} and do things in my business that seems scary.
Bottom line, I can’t be afraid to ask for the sale!
Back in November I went to Rise Business conference and heard Dean Graziosi speak. One of the things he said pops into my head almost daily,
Love what you do so much that if you don’t get them to engage then you are doing a disservice to them.
Which basically means, if I love my affirmation cards and believe in them and I don’t share them with the world I am doing a disservice because they can help change lives.
I am so energized to be focusing on these for the next 12 months!
Are you a goal setter? Tell me what you want to accomplish in 2020!
Are you on Goodreads? I love the app and having a reading goal there really helps me! And you probably already know this but the more we read (no matter what it is) the better we write and both of us seem to write a lot for our business! I’d love to be Goodreads friends with you (goodreads.com/andreashirey)
Good luck with your goals – I have no doubt you’ll reach them!
I do have a goodreads account, but I have never found the app/site very user friendly. maybe I will give it a try again this year.
These are great!
thanks!
Jen! I am so excited about your goals – I specifically love goal #2 to spend less (and specifically more intentional) time on your phone. I can completely relate to that.
Gilbert and I were talking recently about making 2020 “priorities” and then assign goals into those. I am still brainstorming my top key goals and I LOVE that you aren’t setting 212398123 goals.
You go girl, can’t wait to cheer you on AND support you in your ambitions!
I love the idea of priorities!! Can’t wait to see what you land on. I feel like once I get on track with these goals I can maybe add 1 or 2 more goals later on in the year. I’m looking at making 2020 the year smaller wins add up to a big wins!
